Artist Glenn Kaino recreates the memory of his grandfather's East L.A. market in VR at the Japanese American National Musuem. Through family conversations, Kaino draws out past memories of the neighborhood market and translates it into a virtual reality space. Drawing from the life of Kaino’s grandfather, Akira Shiraishi, the exhibition explores the transgenerational trauma from the World War II Japanese American incarceration.
